A wedding

For those of you who know our friend Jerry, I just wanted to write a little post to note his marriage to a thoroughly beautiful woman named Kim. Jerry and Kim were married after dating for only 7 months, and you can tell just by looking at them how much they love and respect each other. They put together one of the best weddings I have ever been to. It was outside on a cool, sunny evening, and the guest list was smaller than an average wedding—about 50 people or so. It followed the broad outline of a traditional religious ceremony but incorporated larger spiritual themes and some specific touches for the two of them.

At one point in the ceremony, all of the adult guests stood up and joined together as each one of us read a line of prayer for the couple. At another point, all the kids took streamers and wrapped Jerry and Kim in them as a playful twist on binding the couple’s hands. After the ceremony, there was dinner, dancing, lots of hugs and a few tears of joy. Sometime after we left to get Ellie home and to bed, Jerry and Kim took off on a huge, cruiser motorcycle for their honeymoon.

I feel like they should own a copyright on it for all of their hard work and creativity, and they have a great future if they ever want to go into business as wedding planners. But clearly they have a great future anyway. What a beautiful celebration of them and their love and commitment, and what an outpouring of love from Jerry and Kim to every single one of us.

I'm sure they will be pleased to read your lovely words. Did you take pictures?

This sounds like an amazing event. Best wishes to the both of them, though it seems they already have the best wishes they could ever have ... each other. And cruising away on a bike? How awesome!!
